February 2010

20:  Elk Grove Public Library: Celebrating Black History month, Kanika will be demonstrating the art of mask making and participants will be able to make a mini mask themselves to take home with them. I will have a varied display of masks, tiles, and other two- and three-dimensional sculptures. Come and play with clay! 10 AM to 4 PM, 8900 Elk Grove Blvd., Elk Grove, CA, 95624

17 - April 11:  Central Sacramento Library: Kanika, along with 10 other jewelry artists, is participating in the "Wear Art!" show. This will be a collection of unique wearble art jewelry created by eleven prominent regional artists using a variety of media.†† I created all-new one-of-a-kind mask necklaces, some with beading, some with wire, and all with a special zest for living. The exhibit will be held in the beautiful lobby of the Central Library, 808 I Street in Downtown Sacramento.

All month:  Blue Moon Gallery, Kanika has some outdoor art, platters, tile murals, and other mixed media sculptures here from Wednesday through Saturday, 12-5PM, 2353 Albatross Way, Sacto., CA (just off El Camino and Business-80).

All month:  Sunlight of the Spirit, 2314 J Street, Sacramento, 95816.  Kanika has Goddess Spirit dolls, goddess statues, masks, hearts and goddess wall hangings at this store that offers interfaith and recovery books, sacred art, prayer beads, music, statues, meditation resources, candles, cards and more!

All month:  Kuumba Collective, The Kuumba Collective is a fabulous new gallery at 1001 Del Paso Blvd., comprised of several local African American artists. Stop by for a cup of Iris Tea Garden tea and choose from Iris' wide selection of all things tea, including tea, tea pots, and her own pottery designs. Marshall Dean Bailey offers a large collection of African-inspired beaded mud cloth wall hangings, jewelry, all-purpose cards, and thought-provoking plaques. Daphne Burgess awes you with her amazing paintings and clay sculptures. Shakiri's bold paintings and talking sticks are conversation pieces. Dr. Francione's colorful paintings call to Spirit.

All month:  Jacquelyn's Salon, A brand new hair salon has opened its doors in Elk Grove and it is full of color: Jacquelyn's Family Salon, 2475 Elk Grove Blvd., Suite 120, 95758.† I took some of my most colorful two-dimensional sculptures there to add to Jackie's personal flair. Jacquelyn's has professionals who specialize in all types of hair (including black and multicultural hair) as well as all hair styles..†

March 2010

5-31:  Kuumba Collective, Kanika Marshall will be the featured artist at the Kuumba Collective in March. The gallery is located at 1001 Del Paso Blvd., and is comprised of several local African American artists. There will be an art reception on Second Saturday, March 13th, from 6 to 10 PM.

6-31:  57th Street Gallery, 5701 Telegraph Ave., Oakland, CA, 94609. Kanika is pleased to participate in the DIVA's: Art Work of Women by Women" from 2:00pm-7:00pm. This exhibit will be on display the whole month of March 2010.

5-6:  The _th Annual Art Fiesta will take place in Town and Country Village Shopping Center. About 150 of Northern California's best fine artists will show and sell their best original artworks in this venerable high-end outdoor mall. Kanika will be in booth #__.

13:  The Elk Grove Artists group invites you to enjoy a day of fine art, live music, face painting and magic tricks as you stroll the shaded corridors of "The Village" Shopping Center.  We are proud to present this opportunity for local and regional artists to connect with a growing community.  Proceeds from the event benefit our Youth Art Scholarship Program.  The event is free to the public.  10am to 4pm at 9669 East Stockton Boulevard, Elk Grove, CA.  See pictures from the 2008 show.

27: On Saturday, June 27, 2009, the Sacramento Potters Group will have their 2nd annual Pot Show at the Garden. Come and see one of the best selections of clay, glass and metal art available at a single show in Sacramento. The show will be held from 10 AM to 4 PM in the beautiful McKinley Park setting at the Shepard Garden and Arts Center, 3330 McKinley Blvd. Sacramento, CA. The Center is located right across the street from the tennis courts.

9-June 4:
Mixed media sculptures from Kanika and vivid watercolors from her mother, Mary Marshall, will be the featured artists this month in a special mother-daughter art show at the Blue Moon Gallery on Second Saturday, July 10th, from 6 to 9 PM.

28-30:  THE BEST SHOPPING EVENT OF THE YEAR JUST GOT BIGGER AND BETTER at the annual holiday arts and craft show to benefit the Crocker Art Museum!  NOTE: This year the show will be held at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center due to construction at the Crocker Art Museum. The show will feature 90 artists at this year's spectacular Holiday Art and Craft Festival, which takes place on 11/28 (Friday night) from 1 to 6 PM, and Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 4 PM.  This is the best time to hunt for the perfect holiday gift from local artisans who craft one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces, ceramics, pottery, paintings, watercolors, sculptures, cards, ornaments, and gourmet food items!   The admission price is free to Crocker members and $5 for adult nonmembers and $3 for children.
